"Prior to our sessions, I had no experience with therapy. Quite frankly, I was unsure whether it would work at all, and at the time I was almost certain that I was not suited to it. All of these doubts, however, were quelled after our first few sessions. The credit here, I believe, should go to Heather, not therapy in general. I consider myself to be socially anxious, but Heather's warm and friendly demeanour meant that, in very little time, I felt incredibly comfortable. It is through this warmth that a relationship of trust was effortlessly established, and I was able to be completely open and honest, allowing me to get to the root of my problems without the worry of judgement. I quickly began to look forward to our sessions rather than the dread I usually feel when facing social situations. Heather takes a more holistic approach to therapy, meaning that it can be constantly adapted to fit you personally, also it means that you are not restricted to one approach that may or may not be suited to you, which is incredibly helpful if it's your first time experiencing therapy.  During our eight months of sessions, Heather gave me a greater understanding of my problems (which to me is crucial), provided me with numerous coping mechanisms, and, perhaps more importantly, altered my mindset as well as perceptions of myself and the world around me. These things are invaluable. Prior to therapy, I was in a terrible place, and even though I am not magically anxiety free, I am in a much better condition to deal with it. There is still room for me to improve but my life has improved immeasurably since undergoing therapy. All I would say, if you are cynical like me, is give it a go. Leave your prejudices and preconceived notions at the door and throw yourself into it entirely, and like me, you may be surprised by what can be achieved through therapy."
